Our community EPIC value helps us connect and give back to the communities where we live and work. We are committed to being a responsible global citizen and to making a difference in the communities where we do business through financial support, partnership and volunteer service.

Corporate Giving

Host supports organizations that promote increased public awareness and participation, develop leadership skills and cooperate rather than compete with similar organizations. Special attention is given to activities with broad-based human impact that are not heavily supported by public funds, and programs that support the educational and basic needs of underserved local children. Most of our giving is focused in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area where Host is headquartered and in the areas where our hotels are located.

Community Engagement

Community Service
We show our EPIC community value not only through financial support but also through volunteer service. Our Team EPIC Service, comprised of members from across the company, help us connect with our local community and select service events throughout the year.

In 2011 and 2012, Host associates supported a broad range of charities and philanthropic organizations, such as the 9/11 Memorial Museum, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Kidney Foundation, So Others Might Eat, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Manna Food Center and Children’s Inn at National Institutes of Health. Beyond sponsorships and financial contributions, additional community service activities included serving meals, putting together care packages, collecting school supplies, toys and clothing, donating books, participating in 5k walks and cleaning up the environment.

Other Charitable Giving Programs for Our Associates
We support our associates’ charities of choice through our Denim Day program, annual charity walk and matching gift program. The Denim Day program allows our associates to select 12 charitable organizations – one for each month of the year – and wear jeans and sneakers every Friday in exchange for their contributions.

Associates also select the company supported walk organization. In 2012, we raised more than $65,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association walk and received top fundraiser recognition.

Through our matching gift program, we match associate donations, dollar for dollar, up to $500.

Emergency Relief
Host has organized special donation funds in response to a disaster or tragedy to support our global community. Typically, our donations are directed to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
