What we've done
- We establish long-term investment plans for all of our assets. Where feasible, we incorporate building systems, equipment, and technologies that improve efficiency and conserve natural resources.
- Invested in over 150 sustainability projects in 2015, which were reviewed and approved by our Capital Expenditure Committee, to improve the environmental and financial performance of our properties.
- Used certified green or recycled products, EPA ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances and fixtures and EPA SmartWay certified logistics to increase sustainable sourcing and delivery for our design and construction projects.
The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa partnered with the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui at the University of Hawaii Maui College and Green Building Hawaii to support an internship program in conjunction with a property-wide lighting retrofit. Interns worked alongside the hotel’s engineering team to replace over 15,500 lamps with high-efficiency LED lighting, resulting in an estimated 675,000 kWh saved per year. Fairmont Kea Lani is coordinating a similar internship program to complete a lighting retrofit project at that property.
On-site steam generators were installed to remove the hotel from the city utility steam system, saving utility costs and reducing carbon emissions intensity by at least 20%.
The hotel installed all new guestroom and corridor HVAC units networked to an energy management system, new high-efficiency central chillers, boilers and air handlers. LED lighting was installed in each guestroom and LED fixtures/lamps throughout the renovated food and beverage outlets.
The pool complex was renovated with energy efficient pumps with variable frequency drives, LED lighting, a pool-deck system that reduces the heat island effect and locally-sourced concrete and pavers.
