Throughout the year, we hold celebratory and educational events to honor and recognize our diverse employees and committees.
Pride Month
We celebrated Pride Month by hosting a special all-employee event featuring keynote speaker Ashley T Brundage, President & CEO of Empowering Differences. We were inspired by her journey and mission to empower those around us to make a positive difference. In addition to recognizing the LGBTQ+ community, we learned about steps and actions we all can take to inspire and empower others, create opportunities for equal access and greater understanding, be better leaders and allies, and make a lasting impact.
Women's History Month
Over 50 employees gathered at The Westin Georgetown, Washington D.C. for a special event featuring two of our female general managers from the Washington Marriott at Metro Center and The Westin Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and from The Logan, Curio Collection by Hilton. Hosted by our women’s network, the guest speakers shared their personal stories about their career journeys in a more male-dominated field, important career milestones, how they prioritize work and life responsibilities and more. Special guests from Howard University’s Marriott-Sorenson Center for Hospitality Leadership, one of our partner organizations, also attended the event. Following the discussion, the group got a special tour of the hotel renovations.
Black History Month
We hosted a series of educational and celebratory events throughout the month to recognize our Black colleagues and community. In support of Host’s focus on health, well-being and health equity for all, a local African American chef and holistic nutritionist hosted an on-site cooking demo where she showed employees how to make healthy dishes. Additionally, one of Host’s employees hosted a lunch and learn session where he shared his personal reflections on Black History Month including stories about overcoming adversity, making a positive difference in the community and living a healthier lifestyle. As the capstone to the series of events, we invited several of our non-profit partners who are focused on driving change in our Black and Brown communities to a social justice fair at our headquarters, and employees had an opportunity to learn more about the organizations’ work and programs along with ways to get involved.

Hispanic Heritage Month
We held an all-employee celebration featuring learning opportunities, food and music. Employees heard from their Hispanic and Latinx colleagues and learned about the history and diversity of the Hispanic and Latin American culture and community. The event culminated with a special lunch featuring a variety of dishes inspired by Hispanic and Latin American countries and live music from a local band.
ADA Day
In honor of the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we held an all-employee event to learn how ADA Day has helped change the lives of the people that it protects and what we do to make our hotels inclusive and ADA compliant. Two special guests and seasoned travelers joined us to share first-hand insight into what it’s like for individuals with disabilities to stay at hotels and how we can provide an optimal guest experience for everyone, of all abilities, through thoughtful design, accommodations and service.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
We learned about the rich history, heritage and traditions of Asian and Pacific Islanders and celebrated our diverse AAPI community at Host with personal reflections from our employees, including a Filipino and Vietnam native.
Diwali
We celebrated our Indian colleagues and community and honored the Indian culture and heritage with an all-employee Diwali festival where we learned about and got to experience the unique customs and traditions of Diwali. The event featured personal reflections by our employees, a ceremonial lamp lighting, a traditional Indian music and dance performance, Henna artists and an Indian-inspired lunch.
Juneteenth
We hosted a live virtual Food Network-style soul food cooking demo featuring the executive sous chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, a Host-owned hotel. We learned about his culture and traditions along with learning more about the history and significance of Juneteenth.
