Host Employees Support Women in Honor of Women's History Month

05/17/2021

In honor of Women’s History Month in March, Host’s service team and Women’s Inspirational Network (WIN) teamed up to support and give back to women in our local community by partnering with N Street Village—a community of empowerment, healing and recovery for homeless and low-income women in Washington, D.C. By offering a broad spectrum of services, housing and advocacy in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, N Street Village helps these women achieve stability and make meaningful gains in their housing, income, employment, mental and physical health and addiction recovery.

Over the course of a month, employees purchased nearly 300 items off N Street Village’s Amazon wish list—which included much-needed clothing as well as items for craft kits and welcome kits—in addition to making monetary donations. Host also made a corporate donation in support of the Village’s mission to help women claim their highest quality of life. Additionally, the service team sponsored a “sweet treats” party for community residents with desserts catered by a local women-owned business.

Donna-Marie Thompson, senior manager of volunteers & in-kind donations at N Street Village said, “N Street Village is proud to work with Host Hotels & Resorts to help us provide services for the 2,000 women that we serve annually. Host went above and beyond for their sweet treats delivery that provided a welcome treat for our residents. We actually had so much we were able to share with another one of our permanent support housing programs—so you went in with the expectation to serve 50 and served 75 with your generosity.”

Lastly, the service team and WIN selected three additional female-focused charities to support that help set women up for success—Room to Read, Rainbow Place Shelter for Homeless Women and Dress for Success—and employees generously contributed to these organizations.
