Host Receives Maryland Business Philanthropy Award

12/01/2016

Host Hotels & Resorts® received the 2016 Business Philanthropy Award for the medium-sized business category at the Philanthropy Day Luncheon held by the Maryland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals on November 9, 2016.

This award, presented by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore Business Journal, recognizes Maryland businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to corporate philanthropy through the support of local charitable organizations, non-profits, and schools. Business and community leaders evaluate the nominees based on the extent of the service provided to the community, the impact of the service on the community, the commitment to community service over time, and the size of the business relative to its corporate giving.

Corporate responsibility is a core value for Host and is rooted in our culture and values. For a relatively small workforce of around 250 employees, our impact on the community is significant. Some highlights from 2016 include participating in the Pack for Troops program at USO-Metro’s Ft. Belvoir warehouse, collecting holiday gifts for young adults with autism and helping to mulch and clean the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. We also raised approximately $200,000 between two company-sponsored walks – the St. Jude/Walk to End Childhood Cancer in September 2015 and the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life in June 2016.
