Making a Pawsitive Difference for Veterans Day

11/30/2023

In honor of Veterans Day, 31 volunteers joined Host’s service team to help Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) bridge the connection between service dogs and their veteran heroes. WCC helps veterans recover from the stress of combat by reconnecting with their families and communities through interaction with service dogs. Dogs are trained by recovering warriors to be paired with a wounded warrior in need of a service dog. When a veteran is paired with a service dog, WCC offers a supply bag containing everything they need to get off to a great start, such as bowls, nail clippers, chew toys and more.

Host’s service team and additional donors purchased the items for the supply bags, and then volunteers wrapped each item and assembled the bags. In total, volunteers wrapped almost 400 items and assembled 40 supply bags. Employees also took a moment to write thank you notes to veterans that were included in each of the bags.

Representatives from WCC, along with three service dogs, socialized with employees during the event to talk about the training program and the veteran each of the dogs was named for. Employees also enjoyed snacks from Dog Tag Bakery in Washington, D.C., which serves as a teaching ground to empower veterans and military families to find renewed purpose and forge community.

This is not our first time supporting this organization. Host has organized other service events supporting WCC, including most recently this past summer when 16 employees from our enterprise analytics & treasury team visited WCC’s headquarters to paint fences and help restore their deck to make it safe for puppies.
