Host Earns SBTi Validation for Updated 2030 Climate Target and NZ-2 “Advanced” in Moody’s Net Zero Assessment

08/27/2025

Host achieved two milestones in its sustainability and risk management strategy: The company’s updated 2030 greenhouse gas (GHG) target has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and Host has earned an NZ-2 “Advanced” rating by Moody’s in its Net Zero Assessment.

“These independent recognitions affirm that Host’s emissions reduction strategy is both rigorous and credible, underscoring our commitment to transparency, strong governance, and long term value creation,” said Mike Lentz, executive vice president, development, design & construction and executive sponsor of Host’s corporate responsibility program.

Host is among the first 20 companies globally to achieve SBTi validation and this milestone marks the third time SBTi has validated the company’s emissions targets. The updated 2030 target commits Host to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions 54% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline, transitioning from a prior intensity-based goal to a more stringent absolute reduction approach.

Moody’s NZ‑2 “Advanced” score places Host among the leading companies in planning for long-term business resilience in a lower-carbon economy. The assessment recognized Host for clear near‑term strategies for reducing emissions through energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy procurement, and strong governance with oversight at the board level, and transparent and robust emissions accounting and disclosure practices.

By year‑end 2024, Host achieved a 32.7% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from a 2019 baseline. This progress reflects disciplined and returns‑focused investments in areas such as renewable energy, smart in‑room energy management systems, LED lighting, advanced building controls and retro‑commissioning projects—each designed to improve operational efficiency while delivering attractive financial performance.

About the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. SBTi develops standards, tools and guidance that allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest. About Moody’s Net Zero Assessment

Moody’s Net Zero Assessment evaluates the strength of a company’s carbon transition plan relative to a global net zero pathway consistent with the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. The assessment has three main components: ambition, implementation and governance. To learn more, visit moodys.com
