In October, a group of employee volunteers came together for a volunteer day in partnership with the C&O Canal Trust, the official nonprofit partner of the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The C&O Canal Trust works in partnership with the National Park Service and local communities to protect and enhance the Park through education, conservation, advocacy and historic preservation.
Co-hosted by Host’s service team and Green Team, the event took place at the Marsden Tract Campground, a popular site along the C&O Canal Towpath that offers scenic views and outdoor recreation.
Volunteers divided into groups and tackled a variety of tasks, including painting picnic tables and grills, collecting trash and debris, and helping restore the campground for public enjoyment. It was a beautiful fall day—perfect for making a hands-on impact while spending time enjoying nature and connecting with colleagues outdoors.
Highlights from the day included:
“Host Hotels & Resorts made a huge impact on the C&O Canal at Marsden Tract Campground… To our Host volunteers, we are touched by your support that ensures the C&O Canal we love remains beautiful, safe and welcoming into the future and for all visitors. Thank you for showing your commitment to the preservation and protection of the C&O Canal!” - Moira Kaluzienski, volunteer coordinator, C&O Canal Trust
Together, employees helped preserve and restore the beauty and usability of one of our region’s most visited and beloved outdoor spaces.
