Host partnered with Camillus House for a meaningful volunteer initiative in Miami, FL, bringing together members of our service team, executive team, our Miami-based colleagues, as well as general managers and property teams from Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay and 1 Hotel South Beach. The visit offered a first-hand look at the organization’s comprehensive approach to care and served as a powerful reminder of the important role Camillus House plays in the Miami community.
During the visit, our group toured Camillus House’s facilities and learned more about the organization’s mission to improve the quality of life of vulnerable individuals and those experiencing homelessness in South Florida through a continuum of housing and supportive services. Camillus House provides a wide range of critical services—including emergency, transitional and permanent safe housing, along with basic needs assistance, medical care, workforce and life skills training, substance abuse and mental health treatment services, counseling, as well as specialized support programs for human trafficking survivors, Veterans and at-risk youth. As one of the area’s broadest homeless services providers, Camillus House serves more than 33,000 individuals and families each year.
Volunteers also learned more about Camillus House’s Day Center, which offers hot meals, showers, clean clothes, mail service and other essential support for individuals experiencing homelessness. As the only program of its kind in Miami-Dade County, the Day Center serves as a critical first point of contact and helps connect clients to longer-term housing, employment and support services.
To support Camillus House’s work, Host made a monetary donation to help individuals served through the Day Center. Through this support, approximately 125 men and women will be able to access meals, showers, clean clothing, and guidance from social workers who help connect them to housing, healthcare and other vital resources—helping them restore dignity, stability and hope.
In addition, Host’s service team is helping meet some of the organization’s most immediate needs through a donation of 800 pairs of women's underwear, 800 pairs of men's underwear, 800 pairs of socks and 30 pairs of men's jeans, all timed to arrive for the organization’s Community Week. 1 Hotel South Beach and Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay also collected seven bins of linens, including more than 2,000 pounds of sheets and towels, to help replenish Camillus House’s supply.
Later that evening, a group of Host volunteers returned to Camillus House to support dinner service for the organization’s in-house residents. The team served approximately 80 meals and assisted with cleaning the cafeteria and kitchen after service.
We are grateful to all of the Host volunteers and our teams from Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay and 1 Hotel South Beach for their participation and commitment to giving back. This support reflects our values and our continued commitment to strengthening the communities where we live, work and own hotels.
