Host Partners with Comfort Cases to Bring Hope and Dignity to Kids in Foster Care

05/30/2024

In recognition of National Foster Care Month in May, Host’s service team partnered with Comfort Cases, a local organization with the mission of bringing hope and dignity to youth in foster care and eliminating trash bags for kids to carry their belongings as they are entering the foster care system.

Earlier in May, 45 employees helped pack “comfort cases”—backpacks filled with comfort and personal care items for a child’s first few days in foster care. Event highlights include:

  • Assembled nearly 200 bags, each of which included a blanket, pajamas, books, toiletries, an affirmation card and a stuffed animal.
  • Made 10 no-sew fleece blankets, which will help bring warmth and comfort to children during the traumatic transition into foster care.
  • Collected 100 travel-sized toiletries and other essentials to include in bags for children through the team’s toiletry drive.

Additionally, Host made a donation to Comfort Cases on behalf of our service team to further support the organization’s programs and mission.

“Thank you so much for your thoughtful donation to Comfort Cases,” said Rob Scheer, Comfort Cases founder and CEO who grew up in the foster care system and shared his personal story with Host volunteers at the service event. “It is because of good humans like you, that our children are being shown that they are loved. With more than 438,000 youth in foster care nationwide and more than 700 entering foster care every day, we need to do all we can to give these children the hope and dignity that they deserve. And you are doing just that. Host’s donation, along with the nearly 200 backpacks filled with items including new blankets, pajamas, books and toiletries, is making an immediate impact in the lives of many.”
